Qualities of a Doctor

In order to be a good doctor, you obviously have to posses the right qualities to make your patients and families feel comfortable and allow you to treat them with the proper care.

Some of the most important qualities that a doctor can have include:
  • Good social and communication skills with their patients (verbal and non-verbal)
  • Willingness to teach fellow doctors, or anyone who is willing and wants to learn
  • Compassionate towards everyone that you interact with, especially your patients
  • A strong work ethic and be able to work around the clock for a patient
  • Respect and honesty towards all
  • Being open with your patients and families to allow them to trust you
  • Validates the pain, listens to a problem and treats a person with professional courtesy
  • Be an excellent listener and make sure a patient understands what is happening
  • Expert at their field of study

Doctor bloopers

To get things started off I think that we should start on a lighter more humorous note. Doctors all have different personalities and are human, they can make mistakes sometimes. I think that after reading this and seeing some of these mistakes, it will help me to become better to not make these when I am in this field.

These are mistakes that Doctors have literally made on charts that they have done about patients!!

- The lab test indicated abnormal lover function
- On the second day the knee was better and on the third day it had completely disappeared
- Patient has left his white blood cells at another hospital
- The patient is a 79-year-old widow who no longer lives with her husband
- The patient left the hospital feeling much better except for her original complaints
- The patient's past medical history has been remarkably insignificant with only a 40 pound weight gain in the past three days
- The patient was to have a bowel resection. However, he took a job as stockbroker instead
- The patient is tearful and crying constantly. She also appears to be depressed
- Discharge status: Alive but without permission
- Healthy-appearing, decrepit 69 year old male, mentally alert but forgetful

These are all mistakes/bloopers that I found to be actually quite fun to read

There are lots more that I have found off of this website if you guys want to check it out!

Next time we will get to the details of being a doctor but I though to start we would add some humor!

Is it your calling?

In life there are many different careers to have and ways to get there, all you need is knowledge of what you want to do and the goals to get there. It is not an easy thing to decided, well for most people anyway but you want to make sure that you do the right thing. Becoming a doctor is what I decided a long time ago and will continue anything that I have to do in order to attain that goal. One of the biggest struggles is finding all the necessary information that you need. My goal while creating this blog is to not only help me to know exactly the path I need to go down, but to furthermore help whoever is in the same situation with me get the right information through a look at possible careers as well as Medical school and all the little details that are a significant part.
